Honoring Ernest C. Trefz

Ernest C. Trefz was a trustee of University of Bridgeport from 1980 to 2017. He was a constant presence as an advisor, philanthropist, and supporter. He was also CEO of the Trefz Corporation, which owns the Bridgeport Holiday Inn, 44 McDonald’s restaurants, and investment properties. His success as an entrepreneur aligned with the Ernest C. Trefz School of Business’s commitment to entrepreneurship, which includes an undergraduate minor in Entrepreneurship, an MBA concentration in Entrepreneurship, and the Student Entrepreneur Center.

At the 2013 groundbreaking for the school he noted, “My family taught me the value of hard work and persistence, and the importance of education. I’m honored and honestly humbled that the UB business school will carry my name,” he added. “I will … support the school and its mission in every way I can.”

While Mr. Trefz is no longer with us, the Trefz family continues to be staunch supporters of the Ernest C. Trefz School of Business.
