Students are not required to apply to graduate or participate in the Commencement Ceremony. Designated faculty (certifiers) will pre-certify students within each academic program, ensuring the eligibility of all candidates. The pre-certification process occurs from February 4, 2022 to March 4, 2022.
University of Bridgeport will host two May 2022 in-person Commencement Ceremonies. The ceremonies are scheduled for May 1, 2022. The undergraduate ceremony will be held at 10:00 AM (EST) and the graduate ceremony at 2:00 PM (EST). The graduate ceremony includes the College of Health Sciences graduate programs.
The ceremonies will be held in the new Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, CT. The address is 500 Broad St, Bridgeport CT 06604.
As a university, we must adhere to the CDC and State of Connecticut guidance regarding large gatherings. If the regulations change during our planning process and we are no longer able to host these in-person ceremonies, we will shift to a virtual ceremony. Any changes will be communicated via your UB email and the UB commencement website.
The $150 graduation fee covers the cost of auditing and maintenance of the student’s academic record. It is not a charge for the ceremony.
The participation form is your “RSVP” for the commencement ceremonies. It provides the committee with your updated information for the ceremony. Eligible May 2022 graduates will receive an email with the participation form link once they are approved for commencement. The participation form will be due April 1, 2022.
The Office of the Registrar will be mailing out the diploma to address entered on the Commencement Participation form for all May 2022 graduating students after the final certification of degree process is completed. During this process, grades are reviewed and degree requirements confirmed. This process begins at the conclusion of the commencement ceremony and usually takes four to six weeks.
Each program or college will reach out to its graduates directly to share specifics of their event.
Honors cords will be distributed throughout Grad Week.
- Graduates who are receiving Latin Honors and have request to have their regalia mailed to them will receive their cords by mail.
- Schools holding Honors Convocations will award Latin cords to their students.
- Graduates will be able to pick up their Cap and Gown and Latin Honor Cords at the Commencement Fair on Tuesday, April 26 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Knights End in the Student Center.
You can purchase your academic regalia directly from the UB Bookstore located in the lower level of the John J. Cox Student Center. Graduates will be able to pick up their regalia starting on April 27, 2022. Please note that Doctorate regalia are customized per graduate. A doctoral student must submit their order using the Doctoral Order Form. The form is due from March 1, 2022 to March 28, 2022. The cost of regalia is not included in your graduation fee.
