Receive a diversified associate or bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene

The UB associate and bachelor’s programs in dental hygiene combine general education courses with courses from the Fones School of Dental Hygiene (FSDH) to offer a comprehensive education that will prepare you for a rewarding career. Our goal for this the dental hygiene program is for each student to graduate with an awareness of health literacy, the knowledge of clinical skills necessary to provide care to patients, and a commitment to life-long learning and professional growth.

The core of the dental hygiene program is 73 credits, the associate degree covers the core programs. The bachelor’s program covers the core 73 credits, with additional courses to reach a total of 120 credits and earn a Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene.

In your first year, you will participate in a classroom and lab experience called pre-clinic. During pre-clinic, you will practice and learn on your fellow dental hygiene students. Once those classes have been completed, you will move onto your clinical experience where you will see real patients. Your clinical will continue until you graduate from the program.

If you are seeking a more flexible schedule, there are online options for students pursuing their bachelor’s or master’s in dental hygiene.

Prepare for an exciting career

Each year, 54 students are accepted into the program. Upon acceptance, you will learn and grow in our state-of-the-art on campus dental hygiene facility where you will learn how to use each tool, how to perform dental hygiene practices and, how to administer anesthesia.

The supportive staff and faculty at UB is dedicated to helping you advance within your field. Internships are available to UB dental hygiene students the summer after their first year in the program.

In addition to earning your degree in dental hygiene, you must also earn licensure. Licensure is achieved by taking the National Board Dental Hygiene exams, which you will prepare for throughout your time in the UB dental hygiene program.
