Since its founding in 1949, FSDH has upheld an unwavering commitment to training UB Dental Hygiene students for success. Our expert instruction, combined with a hands-on approach, helps prepare you to take the National Board Dental Hygiene exams —a requirement to begin practicing in the field.

As you work towards your degree, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as a dental hygienist —honing your health literacy and best care practices to help you become a competent and confident professional. You’ll enhance your expertise through hands-on clinical experiences in our state-of-the-art dental hygiene clinic, learning to use tools, perform procedures, and administer anesthesia. The supportive staff and faculty are dedicated to your advancement, with internships available after your first year.

UB’s associate and bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene programs combine general education courses with core classes from the FSDH —preparing you for success from classroom to career.

As a first-year student in our Dental Hygiene undergraduate programs, you will build foundational skills through hands-on practice in your pre-clinic coursework. During pre-clinic, you will learn and practice your caregiving skills alongside your fellow dental hygiene students.

After satisfying these requirements, you will begin your clinical coursework in our state-of-the-art, on-campus facilities —giving supervised care to patients from the Bridgeport community. Your clinical fieldwork will continue until you graduate from the program.
