The Honors Program provides me with opportunities and classes that wouldn't otherwise be available. I recently took an honors Social Psychology course. There were a very small number of students in the class, meaning we got more one-on-one time with the instructor. The class was very collaborative and discussion-based, which I enjoyed. Being part of the UB Honors program also provides opportunities to explore different areas of interest, like the arts. We had the opportunity to see the Tony Award winning Broadway show, “& Juliet,” which wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for the Honors program.
The Honors Program is designed for students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement.
First-year accepted students with a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher will be invited to join the Honors Program after submitting their deposit.
Undergraduate transfer students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher at their previous institution can apply to join the Honors Program. Students must be transferring less than 60 credits.
Current UB Students
Current students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher can apply for the Honors Program before completing 60 credits.
Being in the Honors program allowed me to connect with a smaller group of students from all different majors. We were all able to build relationships that we normally wouldn't have by being in different programs. It also opened the door for me to take more rigorous classes. I found the assignments interesting and stimulating.
Students in the Honors Program must:
- Complete at least five courses with the Honors designation. Students can find these courses in the Course Catalog.
- Submit an Honors thesis (optional, but strongly recommended).
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and earn a minimum of a "B" in an Honors designated course for that course to be counted toward the Honors Program requirements.
Being a part of the Honors program has been an amazing experience. The program also gave me advantages like registering early for some of the best classes and participating in luncheons and receptions, where I developed relationships with other Honors students. The skills and relationships I have developed in this program will prove fruitful for my life.
