Bridge to College English Program

The Bridge to College English program is for students who are conditionally accepted to a University of Bridgeport undergraduate or graduate academic program and are in ELI’s Advanced level. They can take one or two academic courses during the fall or spring semester, in addition to their ELI program classes. Students will be full-time ELI students and part-time university students.

Advantages

Students will get an English immersion experience before starting college or graduate school full-time and have a supportive introduction to American higher education. Knowing your English Language Institute level before you arrive allows you to plan your length of study. Meetings with academic advisors while you are in ELI will be arranged for you to learn about your major and plan academic classes.

Requirements

Students must be conditionally accepted to a degree program at University of Bridgeport. Students must be placed into the Advanced level by one of the following methods: a TOEFL score of at least 55, IELTS of at least 5.5, or progression through the ELI program into Advanced.

The Bridge to College English program is available at the start of the fall and spring semesters.

Submit an English Language Institute application along with proof of your TOEFL or IELTS with your University of Bridgeport application. Check “Bridge to College English Program” on the ELI application form.
