Over its hundred-year history, University of Bridgeport has been committed not only to passing on knowledge, but to creating it. Notable UB lecturers, faculty, alums, and guest speakers, from Igor Sikorsky to Martin Luther King, Jr., from artist Salvador Dali to Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-CT), are figures who have changed the world through their innovative ideas and their dedication to speaking their truth.
UB’s latest expression of its mission to push the frontiers of knowledge is University of Bridgeport Press, an enterprise dedicated to disseminating groundbreaking ideas from thought leaders in business, technology, and education.
UB Press Director Dr. Randy Laist explains, “UB is a crackling hub of brilliant ideas that come to life in our classrooms, in library study sessions, and in faculty meetings. UB Press is one way that we’re trying to share some of these exciting ideas with the world.”
The first title published by UB Press is “Zoom to Success“. Written by Nancy Ancowitz, author and regular columnist for Psychology Today, this book takes a deep dive into the interpersonal nuances of Zoom calls.
Recently, UB Press also published “The Thinking Mirror: Entangled Possibilities” by Mike Barlow. Barlow’s book conducts a thoughtful and amusing examination of the meaning of Artificial Intelligence from a humanist perspective.
Available digitally and in print, both books share a preoccupation with thinking in new ways about the emerging technologies reshaping our world, advancing UB’s mission to position itself at the bleeding edge of techno-cultural evolution.
What’s next for UB Press?
UB Press’ exciting new project is to publish a book written by a UB student — a senior, Laia Albàs Ferrer. Ferrer’s book, “Across Two Courts”, tells the story of her experiences as an international student athlete. Scheduled to be published in the fall of 2026, “Across Two Courts” will provide helpful information for international student athletes who want to take advantage of opportunities to study in the USA, while also reflecting on the global perspective that such an experience affords.
As UB sprints toward its centennial and begins moving into its second century, University of Bridgeport Press is poised to serve as a powerful medium for giving voice to the vibrant, world-changing ideas being born on the UB campus every day.
