University of Bridgeport Announces Academic Collaboration with SAS
A collaboration between the University of Bridgeport and analytics leader SAS has resulted in a joint certificate program where students graduate with both the UB degree and a SAS credential. Graduates of the MS in Analytics and Systems and MBA degree program with a concentration in Analytics Intelligence in the University’s Ernest C. Trefz School of Business can also earn a SAS Certificate in Analytics.
According to Emsi, a labor market analytics firm, last year more than 36,000 unique job postings listed SAS as a required or desired skill for potential employees. That was just in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts.
“UB’s new academic collaboration with SAS positions us to provide world class analytics instruction with a premier analytics company and our students graduate with a very marketable credential,” said Michael Lohle, PhD, senior lecturer of Management and Information Systems. “Many prominent companies are SAS clients and this positions UB to work with them to capitalize upon this opportunity.”
Elena Cahill, JD, director of the Ernest C. Trefz School of Business, said that a co-branded digital badge increases a student's value to prospective employers. “This collaboration will give UB students self-confidence as they prepare to enter today’s marketplace,” Cahill said. “It’s another example of UB’s focus on preparing our students for the future workforce.”
SAS partners with more than 300 academic programs worldwide to help bridge the gap between supply and demand for analytical talent across industries. Since its founding at North Carolina State University in 1976, SAS has become one of the largest analytics software firms in the world, reporting $3.2 billion in revenue in 2018.
“Data and analytics are fueling the most exciting innovations today,” said Lynn Letukas, director, SAS Global Academic Program. “UB students with SAS skills can pursue careers that can transform business and improve the world.”
