Dr. Yanmin Yu earned her Ph.D. from the Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University. She has contributed articles and book chapters in various publications and is the author of two books on mass communication. She is a recipient of the Fulbright-Hays Fellowship to Senegal (2009), Australia (2005), and Egypt and Israel (2000).

She has also been the recipient of the Freeman Fellowship for Japan Studies (2007), the Philip S. Weld Fellow of the American Press Institute (2007), and the Rolan D. Melton Fellow of the American Press International (2001). She served as the President of the Association of Chinese Professor of Social Sciences in the United States (2001-2003). She was the 2003-2004 recipient of the Distinguished Professor of the Year Award at University of Bridgeport.

Media Law, International Journalism, Intercultural Communication, and Communication Theory among others.
