Applicants who wish to be awarded the 092 Certificate from the state of Connecticut must complete a state-approved program at a regionally accredited college or university, leading to an institutional recommendation for certification.
Additionally, earning 092 Certification is contingent on applicants meeting the following requirements:
- Master’s degree from an accredited higher education institution
- 18 semester hours of graduate credit, beyond the master’s degree
- 50 months of teaching experience or service
- 36 clock hours of special education study, which can include the credits earned in a 092 Certification program
- Graduate coursework in the following areas: psychological and pedagogical foundations of learning, curriculum development and program monitoring, school administration, personnel evaluation and supervision, and contemporary education problems and solutions

Who’s Qualified to Apply to the 092 Certificate Program?
Educators who want to enter an 092 Certification program must meet some minimum requirements. These include at least a master’s degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution, with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0. Additionally, applicants must have at least three years of certified teaching experience. This program is meant for Connecticut certified teachers.

After completing an 092 Certification preparation program from a state approved institution, candidates must sit for and pass the Connecticut Administrators Test (CAT), Praxis 6412. Being awarded initial 092 Certification from the state is contingent on passing this exam. Additionally, aspiring administrators must complete an online application and mail:
- A statement of professional experience,
- Copies of official graduate transcripts with conferral of a master’s degree and advanced administrative coursework,
- Proof of successful teaching service, and
- A payment to the state of Connecticut.
