Online Nutrition Degree Program
Our fully accredited online nutrition degree program consists of 41 credit hours of core curriculum courses, and 3 credit hours of an elective course followed by completion of a comprehensive examination, which is given on campus after the completion of courses.
The exam is offered twice annually, once in spring and once in fall. A thesis can be completed as an elective but the comprehensive exam is also required. Online nutrition students will receive their classes via the digital Canvas system and also utilize synchronous learning technology to provide a virtual classroom in selected courses.
The online Master’s in Nutrition program supports the acquisition, utilization, and application of nutrition principles in clinical situations. Coursework is designed to assist the student in gaining proficiency in counseling clients/patients in alternative and complementary nutritional therapies. In addition, the program provides an opportunity for medical, chiropractic, and other healthcare providers to expand their practice through knowledge gained from graduate studies in nutrition.
Licensure or certification is available through several individual states or national nutritional organizations. Consult with state health departments or specific organizations for exact eligibility. The program is a graduate-level program and is NOT designed to lead to the registered dietician (R.D.) designation.
The program provides its graduates with a foundation for entering Ph.D. programs in nutrition.
Comprehensive Final Exam
Following completion of the core curriculum, all online students are required to complete a one-day Comprehensive Examination. The exam is held twice a year, once in the Fall and once in the Spring, on the main campus in Bridgeport, CT. Typically, students take the exam during their last semester, simultaneously with their elective (which is not covered on the exam). Travel expenses are the student’s responsibility. Post graduate seminars are offered most exam weekends the day after the comp exam affording online students a unique on campus experience with their classmates and other nutrition professionals. Details on the seminars are provided when registering for the comp exam.
