Meet University of Bridgeport’s 2025 commencement student speakers. In their own words and in front of their peers, these graduates shared what the moment meant to them — and what’s next.

Undergraduate Ceremony Student Speaker — Ishmael A. Mensah, BS Dental Hygiene

Ishmael A. Mensah immigrated to the United States from Accra, Ghana, in 2012. He began his career in education, earning a diploma in Elementary Education from WATICO College of Education and teaching primary school in Samreboi, Ghana. Driven by a desire to further his education in a land he saw as full of opportunity, Ishmael took social science courses at the University of Cape Coast before moving to Columbus, Ohio. There, he became a certified dental assistant through Columbus Trade Schools (formerly Heritage College) and spent nine years working in dental settings.
Now a proud first-generation college student, Ishmael is set to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from University of Bridgeport. He has earned spots on both the President’s and Dean’s lists and is actively involved in campus life as a member of the African Student Association and the Student American Dental Hygienists’ Association.
Committed to service, Ishmael volunteers with the Hillcrest Educational Complex and the Connecticut Mission of Mercy, which provides free dental care to underserved communities. After graduation, he plans to work as a registered dental hygienist and hopes to continue his studies in dental medicine.

Graduate Ceremony Student Speaker — Mirna Boktor, Doctor of Health Science (DHSc.)

Mirna Boktor, of Marlboro, NJ, will graduate with a Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc.) degree. While earning her doctorate, she worked full-time in medical and scientific affairs, supporting post-market surveillance to ensure the safety of medical devices. She also launched a nutrition department for a wellness company, blending her academic knowledge with experience in business development. Her doctoral research explored the therapeutic potential of nanocurcumin in reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, reflecting her commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based care.
Mirna is an active member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) and the Worldwide Women’s Association (WWA), where she connects with leaders in science, health, and professional development. After graduation, she plans to continue her career in medical affairs while expanding her work as a nutritionist. She’s also developing a business model for hosting holistic health and career development conferences focused on prevention, self-care, and professional growth. In the future, she hopes to teach as an adjunct professor to help educate and inspire the next generation of health professionals.

As the communications manager for University of Bridgeport, Abby produces compelling narratives highlighting academic programs, research initiatives, and student success. Her work has earned positive media coverage across print, digital, and TV platforms. Abby holds a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in political science, bringing a strategic and creative approach to her role in higher education marketing and communications.
