ABSN (Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
What is an ABSN?
An ABSN, or Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing, is a fast-track nursing degree designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field. Instead of completing a traditional four-year program, ABSN students build on their prior education to prepare for a career as a registered nurse (RN) in a shorter amount of time.
At University of Bridgeport, our ABSN program prepares graduates for entry-level nursing practice while also providing a strong foundation for continued education and professional growth.
ABSN program structure
The ABSN program at UB is a full-time, accelerated program that can be completed in as few as 15 months. The curriculum blends classroom learning with hands-on lab work, simulation experiences, and clinical rotations. Students complete both general education and Nursing coursework while gaining early and ongoing clinical experience in various healthcare settings. Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam to become licensed registered nurses.
ABSN prerequisites
Because the ABSN program is accelerated, admission is competitive. Applicants must already hold a conferred bachelor’s degree and complete required prerequisite coursework before beginning the program. All prerequisites must be completed prior to the start of the first semester.
