The English Language Institute (ELI) is a well-established English as a Second Language program with experienced teachers holding advanced degrees, small classes of three to 15 students, and a computer laboratory. It is located on the 50-acre campus of the University of Bridgeport facing 300 acres of playing fields, beaches, and picnic areas of Seaside Park on Long Island Sound. Beautiful Victorian houses dot the campus.
The city of Bridgeport is on the eastern coast of the United States, an hour’s train ride from New York City and three hours from Boston. Bridgeport is home to the Bridgeport Bluefish professional baseball team, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers professional ice hockey team, the Barnum Museum which traces the history of Bridgeport and the origins of “the greatest show on earth,” and the Beardsley Zoo, a five-minute drive from campus.
English Language Institute students have access to university resources—Wahlstrom Library, Wheeler Recreation Center, International Student Services, HealthServices, Career Services, Residence Halls & Dining Services, University Shuttle Bus and others—and activities such as the annual International Festival, movie nights, clubs, and trips.
Students at ELI benefit from being part of a global educational community on the East Coast of the United States, in historic New England.
