University of Bridgeport Announces No Tuition Increase for the 2023-2024 Academic Year

Tuition will remain flat at UB for the third straight year!

University of Bridgeport recently announced that there will be no tuition increase for domestic full-time undergraduate students for the 2023-2024 academic year, including room and board. Before financial aid or scholarships are applied, tuition for undergraduate students remains at $35,960. According to Encoura, a national research center for college and university admissions, the average cost of tuition for Connecticut’s public and private colleges and universities is 13% higher at $41,442.

UB Works to Make a College Education a Reality for More Students

Across UB’s campus, people are committed to helping UB students. Staff in the Financial Aid office work hard to identify ways to help students finance their education. The Advancement Office works with alumni and other community organizations to solicit donations while UB’s Grants Office works tirelessly to secure millions of dollars each year, all to help offset operational costs and increase student services offered by UB without increasing student costs. Together, these efforts make it possible for UB to remain affordable to more students from around the country and the globe.

The decision to hold tuition flat for a third year in a row further reinforces UB’s dedication to making a college education accessible to students from all backgrounds.

“The continued freeze on tuition rates is part of the institution’s commitment to making college affordable, helping students reach their goals without the burden of additional costs,” said Dr. Danielle Wilken, University of Bridgeport president. “We recognize that inflation is significantly impacting families, which in turn impacts our students. We are delighted to be able to extend this opportunity once again.”

As a non-profit university, 100% of tuition collected goes toward University of Bridgeport programs, services, and facilities that benefit students. UB works year-round to reduce barriers for students, including support services at the Heckman Student Center for academic advising and tutoring, and the Knight’s Pantry to address student food insecurity. Financial challenges are some of the most significant hurdles to earning a degree for many students, and so UB’s leadership and board are proud to be able to expand this support beyond the campus by continuing to offer an affordable option for high-quality education.

Cost is the Most Important Factor in the College Search Process

Access to higher education matters now more than ever. Statistically, individuals with college degrees earn significantly more annually and, in a lifetime, than those with high school diplomas. Still, students’ and families’ reluctance to rack up debt to attend college is understandable. Starting a career tens and even hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt is a daunting proposition. That’s why more and more students are citing financial factors, such as tuition costs and access to student financial aid, as the driving factors in their college decision – more so than academic programs, campus life, and even public safety (Encoura).

From the moment students first enter UB to the day they cross the stage at commencement, they are investing in their future success at a lower cost than comparable schools in the region. By mitigating the costs UB students pay in tuition while maintaining our career-focused programs led by world-class faculty, our students have the opportunity to earn valuable degrees and launch careers they can be proud of.
