Graduate Spotlight: Nicqueva Haughton

Greetings! My name is Nicqueva Haughton, and I am new member of the alumni community at the University of Bridgeport. I graduated with the remarkable class of 2020, earning my Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I had the distinct privilege of delivering the undergraduate commencement speech. This was an incredible honor for me specifically because I had the opportunity to make my parents proud, especially my dad, who passed away shortly after commencement. Even at the age of thirty-five, I was encouraged that it is never too late to strive for and accomplish every goal you set for yourself, realizing that everyone’s path and journey are unique. The class of 2020/2021 is unique in that there were no tangible instructions, no blueprints, and no outlines to follow. We were pressed to navigate a new world and search for paths to arrive at one of the most pivotal and defining moments in our lives. For this, I celebrate you all! I celebrate every professor who had to maneuver teaching each course in a relevant and effective way while managing to be sensitive to the climate of our world. I am so proud of the UB 2020 Survivors. Allow me to affirm you:

You are trailblazers.
You are unique.
You have impeccable endurance.
You are mentally indestructible.
You are initiators.
You are creators.
You are the ultimate improvisers.

My path has rewardingly become one that is full circle. In addition to beginning a shoe designing business, I am now working as a development associate in the Office of Advancement at the University of Bridgeport. Nothing brings me greater privilege than being able to come back to where it all started.

I wish all of my fellow classmates the best!
