From UB to Amazon

Dhaval Bulsara, a University of Bridgeport graduate student, earned his master’s degree in Computer Science this May. Soon after he walked across the stage at UB’s Commencement ceremony, he took off for Cupertino, California, where he will begin his career as a software development engineer at Amazon.

The University of Bridgeport is among a small group of schools selected to host a three-week introduction program to computer science aimed at graduating high school seniors with a passion for technology—especially students from historically underrepresented groups in the field.

Take two for the win

hen are two individuals a strong enough duo to win a challenge that normally requires a team of four or five?  Answer: when the dynamic duo is Isha and Sushant Singh, two graduate students at the University of Bridgeport. The Singhs, who received a monetary award for their project proposal, presented their ideas to Checkmate Digital of New Haven, Connecticut, their Innovation Challenge Weekend client. According to the company’s website, Checkmate Digital, is a product strategy and design partner for B2B companies.

UB appoints director for Innovation Center

The University of Bridgeport has appointed Chris Hamer, a tech innovator, entrepreneur, and marketing expert as director of its new Innovation Center. In his new position, Hamer will lead all activities related to the Student Entrepreneur Center, including the development and implementation of programs and events throughout the UB community. He also will lead industry and community outreach and fundraising to further the goals of UB’s entrepreneurship and innovation mission.

UB will host Faculty Research Day on March 23

Faculty Research Day, an annual celebration showcasing the expanse of research at the University of Bridgeport (UB), will be held on Friday, March 23. This year, Faculty Research Day focuses on the future of research and tomorrow’s scholars. A designated High School Research area, new to Faculty Research Day this year, will be dedicated to research by students’ from several Fairfield County high schools, including Fairchild Wheeler Interdistrict Magnet School, Stratford High School, Shelton High School, Notre Dame High School, and Bridgeport Aquaculture School.
