Dear UB Community,
Welcome back to what I believe will be a fruitful and happy New Year. I hope that all of you were able to enjoy break with family and friends, even if in physically distanced ways, and are ready for a productive new semester.
We have been working hard over break with our friends at Goodwin University, and continue to make good progress on the transition. As I shared before the break, the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) has now approved the plan for continuation of the University of Bridgeport as an independent institution operating under the Goodwin University umbrella. This critical support will help us plan a new University of Bridgeport that benefits our students.
The next step in the transition will be the completion of the real estate sale. This has taken slightly longer than expected, but the deal is still on track and will be announced when it is finalized.
I am proud of how well everyone at UB handled the challenges of remote learning and on-campus COVID-19 protocols during the fall semester. Let’s keep that going during the spring, paying attention to public health guidelines and practicing personal responsibility. Wear face masks, wash hands frequently, keep physical distancing in place, and avoid large gatherings to keep the virus from spreading. If you have any questions about our COVID-19 policies or guidelines, you can visit www.bridgeport.edu/covid-19.
2020 was a year of change and challenge. That can certainly be exhausting, but the possibilities for 2021 are exciting and real. At last, we can say that vaccinations for COVID-19 are under way. Plans are that next fall will begin an exciting chapter for a reborn UB. We will have the opportunity to continue serving students as they pursue their dreams and lay down foundations for meaningful careers.
Welcome back, everyone. Let’s make the new year the best we have ever had.
