Dear UB Community:
Student Health Services is hosting three (3) free Flu Shot clinics on campus in October and we highly encourage everyone to get a flu shot this year. Vaccination against the flu has always been important, but public health experts agree that it is even more critical this year because of COVID-19.
The clinics will take place at the Student Center (Social Room) from 11AM-1PM on the following dates:
Thursday, October 1
Tuesday, October 6
Tuesday, October 13
Recent studies from the CDC show getting a flu shot reduces the risk of getting the flu by between 40-60% among adults. More importantly, flu vaccination is even more effective in preventing the most severe forms of flu and reduces your risk of being hospitalized with flu by 82 percent.
While the flu shot does not protect against COVID-19, reducing the number of flu cases will help preserve limited health care resources currently dedicated to battling the pandemic. It is also possible to get both COVID-19 and the flu at the same time and that could exacerbate the symptoms and impact on your health.

I also want to thank you again for your continued commitment to protecting yourself and other members of the UB community by following our COVID-19 regulations. Remember to:
- Wear a cloth face cover in public settings.
- Keep 6 feet of distance between you and people who do not live in your household.
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Stay home when you are sick.
Now go sign up for your flu shot today! The event is open to all students, staff, and faculty by appointment only. Participation is free, but you will need to bring their insurance card and your insurance will be charged.
