Dear Goodwin University and University of Bridgeport Communities,
We are proud to share that the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) has approved the accreditation of the University of Bridgeport as an independent institution operating under the Goodwin University umbrella. While the University of Bridgeport will remain independent, our goal is that students and faculty of both institutions will be able to take advantage of programs and opportunities on the two campuses.
NECHE’s support for our plan is a significant milestone that is crucial to our vision of a new University of Bridgeport that benefits Goodwin University and University of Bridgeport students, faculty, staff and the communities of East Hartford and Bridgeport. This is one of the very few times that NECHE has approved an accreditation of this kind and a momentous achievement for both Goodwin University and the University of Bridgeport.
NECHE is an independent organization that accredits 220 public and private degree-granting colleges and universities throughout New England. It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an authority on the quality of education. Accreditation by NECHE requires meeting a set of standards to ensure an institution will provide students with a quality education now and in the future. In order for students to qualify for federal financial aid, all higher education institutions in New England must be accredited by NECHE.
With NECHE accreditation secured, our work with the U.S. Department of Education and our programmatic accreditors continues with the goal of securing all necessary accreditations for the University of Bridgeport and the programs Goodwin University seeks to acquire in 2021.
We want to take this opportunity to once again thank you all for your continued cooperation and patience during this process, and we will continue to keep you updated as our collaboration progresses.
