Provost Appoints New Interim Dean

Khaled Elleithy, PhDThe University of Bridgeport has named a new interim dean of the College of Engineering, Business, and Education. Tarek Sobh, PhD, interim provost, announced that after discussing with the program directors in the College, he has named Khaled Elleithy, PhD, interim dean of the College of Engineering, Business and Education, effective immediately.

Dr. Elleithy joined the University of Bridgeport in January 2000 as an associate professor of computer science and engineering and was promoted to full professor in 2003. Dr. Elleithy has served in several different administrative roles of increasing seniority, including most recently as associate dean of the College of Engineering, Business, and Education. He was instrumental in managing, expanding, and advancing several MS programs and PhD programs, as well as interdisciplinary and dual masters programs. He played a vital role in the development and accreditation of the PhD program in computer science and engineering.

Dr. Elleithy has more than 30 years of teaching experience. He supervised hundreds of senior projects, MS theses, and PhD dissertations. He developed new undergraduate and graduate courses, and new teaching/research laboratories at UB.

He is a prolific scholar within his discipline. He has been the principal investigator on many externally funded research grants and his research group in the mobile and wireless communications and quantum computing areas has won more than 40 awards at the state and national levels for their research papers and posters.

Dr. Elleithy received UB’s Distinguished Professor of the Year award in 2007, the 2015 Connecticut Quality Improvement Award Gold Innovation Prize, and in December 2017, he was elected Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences in recognition of his contributions to the fields of wireless sensor networks and wireless communications.

Dr. Sobh looks forward to Dr. Elleithy’s continued contributions to the College of Engineering, Business, and Education in his new capacity as interim dean and excited to be working alongside him in efforts on behalf of the University of Bridgeport.
