Bridgeport, CT (May 10, 2019)—For the first time in more than 20 years, the University of Bridgeport’s Commencement ceremonies will be held on campus this year. The undergraduate and graduate ceremonies will be held under a big top tent—in honor of Bridgeport legend, P.T. Barnum—with families, friends, faculty, and staff celebrating a major milestone in the lives of our students.
There will be three separate Commencement ceremonies for the University’s graduating class of 2019: Health Sciences graduate ceremony, which will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 12, in the University’s Mertens Theater; the Undergraduate ceremony, which will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, in Marina Park; and the Graduate ceremony, which will follow the Undergraduate ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. in Marina Park.
The anticipated number of graduates at each of the ceremonies is as follows: Health Sciences, 196; undergraduates, 613; and graduates, 646. Nine UB alumni from the Class of 1969 will be recognized as Golden Knights on the 50th anniversary of their graduation.
The Commencement speaker for the University’s Health Sciences graduates is Tracy W. Gaudet, MD, executive director, Veterans Health Administration, Office of Patient-Centered Care & Cultural Information. She is a recognized leader in the transformation of healthcare.
The Commencement speaker for undergraduate Ceremony is Congresswoman Jahana Hayes, the first African-American woman to represent the state of Connecticut in Congress. A National Teacher of the Year awardee, she received a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership from the University of Bridgeport.
The Commencement speaker for the graduate ceremony is Stacie L. Ropka, PhD, a partner at Axinn, Veltrop & Harkrider LLP. She specializes in the practice of law with a focus on the Federal Drug Administration, intellectual property, and patents.
Should the location need to be changed due to inclement weather, the May 18 ceremonies will take place indoors at Mertens Theater in the Arnold Bernhard Center (ABC).
The University will livestream the ceremonies for those family and friends who are unable to celebrate in person. The link to each livestream is available on the University of Bridgeport website (www.bridgeport.edu/live).
