UB to honor President and Mrs. Neil A. Salonen on April 26

The University of Bridgeport (UB) invites members of the campus and surrounding community as it salutes retiring President Neil A. Salonen and his wife Rebecca in a joyous celebration beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 26 at the Arnold Bernhard Center.

A reception will immediately follow the hour-long event. Arnold Bernhard Center is located on the UB campus at 84 Iranistan Avenue.

UB Board of Trustees Vice Chairman Mark A. Fries ’73 and Student Government Association President Youssef Agiez ’18 will be among those dignitaries paying tribute to President Salonen’s 18 years of service to the University.

Ramon Peralta ’93, ’17 will make a special presentation to President and Mrs. Salonen from the Alumni Association. Peralta is president of the association’s board of directors.

The celebration concludes with a video remembrance by filmmaker Larry Locke and a performance by the University Singers, under the direction of UB Choral Director Frank Martignetti.

President Salonen joined the UB Board Trustees in 1992 before serving as its chairman in 1995. He was appointed UB’s ninth president in 2000.

Under his watch, UB has more than tripled its revenue, balanced its budget, and steadily increased enrollment to over 5,000 students.

President Salonen announced in May 2017 his plans to step down from office on June 30, 2018.  Laura Skandera Trombley, Ph.D, has been named his successor.
