Five new members join UB Board of Trustees
The University of Bridgeport (UB) Board of Trustees has elected five new members, effective immediately, the University announced today.
“We are pleased to welcome Michael Kolakowski, Michael LaBella, David Norton, Terry O’Connor, and Bruce Silverstone to the board. The University will be enriched by the talent and experience that each of these new trustees will bring to their service to UB,” said Board Co-Chairman Frank N. Zullo, Esq., former mayor of Norwalk, CT.
Michael Kolakowski is president and CEO of KBE Building Corporation, where he has been instrumental in diversifying the firm’s client base from retail to a wide diversity of market sectors, including higher education. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Technology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He has contributed his skills and talents to the University of Bridgeport in numerous ways, including philanthropy.
Michael LaBella ’80, a UB alumnus and the president of Connecticut commercial banking at TD Bank, manages regional branches in New Haven, Hartford, New Britain, and Fairfield. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance at UB and an MBA from Sacred Heart University. Mr. LaBella serves on the board of directors of the Connecticut Bankers Association and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council. A resident of Trumbull, he is active in numerous local charitable organizations.
David Norton serves as senior executive vice president and chief human resources officer at People’s United Bank. He studied at Oakland University and Michigan State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Mr. Norton serves on the boards of several community organizations and is president of the board at the Cardinal Shehan Center. He resides in Pound Ridge.
Terry O’Connor recently retired from the Cardinal Shehan Center where he was Executive Director since 1992. In 2012, he took on added duties as executive director of the McGivney Community Center. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Niagara University and a master’s degree from Syracuse University. A resident of Trumbull, Mr. O’ Connor actively participates in the Bridgeport Regional Business Council, Leadership Greater Bridgeport, United Way of Eastern Fairfield County, and other community organizations.
Bruce T. Silverstone ’74 is vice president of corporate communications at Aquarion Water Company. After graduating from the University of Bridgeport with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, he earned a Master of Arts in Corporate and Political Communications from Fairfield University. His community involvement includes serving on the board of directors of St. Vincent’s Special Needs Center, Workplace, Inc., The Beardsley Zoo, McGivney Center, and the Barnum Festival. He is USAF veteran and a licensed EMT. Mr. Silverstone and his family reside in Trumbull.
