UB hires national search firm to help find its next president
The University of Bridgeport (UB) has hired Isaacson Miller, a national firm specializing in the recruitment of high-level leaders for nonprofits and education, to identify the University’s 10th president, UB Trustee Robert L. Berchem, who is chair of the presidential search committee, announced on Monday.
Isaacson Miller President Sheryl Ash and Senior Associate Lionel Anderson will lead the recruitment campaign to find a successor to President Neil A. Salonen, who is stepping down on June 30, 2018.
Ms. Ash has previously worked with numerous boards of trustees to recruit presidents for Sarah Lawrence College, Marist College, Vassar College, the City University of New York, Arizona State University, Northeastern University, the University of Michigan, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Isaacson Miller will work with a nine-member presidential search committee composed of members from the UB community. They will provide input and help propose a list of finalists for the Board of Trustees to consider in choosing the University’s next president.
Committee members, led by Chairman Berchem, include Board of Trustees Co-Chairmen the Honorable Frank N. Zullo and Thomas Walsh, Barbara James ’74, Diane Allison and Mark Fries ’73; faculty members Sara Connolly and William Lay; and Provost Stephen Healey.
Isaacson Miller will make its first visit to the UB campus in early September to learn more about the challenges and opportunities for the next president and the qualifications that are desired in presidential candidates at this stage of UB’s development.
The UB Board of Trustees reviewed proposals from 10 search firms before interviewing four finalists and selecting Isaacson Miller.
President Salonen, 72, who has led the University since 2000, announced in May that he was stepping down.
