UB professor named Entrepreneur of the Year
Elena Cahill wears many hats.
She’s president of Globele Energy, LLC., a commercial and industrial energy-conservation, generation- and brokerage-consulting firm she founded in 2009.
She’s a senior lecturer at the Ernest C. Trefz School of Business at the University of Bridgeport, where she helped to found the Student Entrepreneur Center.
And she’s a pivotal driver of economic growth, according to the Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce, which presented Cahill with the Entrepreneur of the Year Award at its Women’s Achievement Awards luncheon on October 20.
That same day, Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) presented Cahill with a certificate of special recognition for her contributions to business.
Picking Cahill for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award was a “no brainer,” said Anthony Rescigno, president of the Quinnipiac and Greater New Haven Chambers of Commerce.
“When you talk to her, you feel her passion about how she wants to jump right in and help people. She truly is a problem-solver,” he said.
And in fact, upon receiving her award, Cahill focused on others. “Not only was I grateful to be nominated, I was humbled to be in the company of the other award-winners,” she said. “They are all superwomen who have had contributed so much to the community and women, and it is inspiring and gratifying to sit among them.”
Cahill ’87, ’91, earned her bachelor’s and law degrees from UB. She then practiced commercial law, focusing on business reorganization, from 1991-2000 before working as a consultant for entrepreneurs.
She returned to the University as an adjunct faculty member in 2005. Now a full professor at the Ernest C. Trefz School of Business, she currently teaches business law and management classes in the MBA program. In 2015, was instrumental in founding the Student Entrepreneur Center at UB.
Cahill has also served as director of the Angel Investor Forum, a Connecticut-based angel investing group. Since that time, she created two additional businesses and further sold one to a NYC-based private equity group.
