Dr. Carol Papp named founding dean of University of Bridgeport School of Nursing

Dr. Carol Papp has been appointed the Founding Dean of the University of Bridgeport’s School of Nursing, effective January 20, 2015, University officials announced today.

“Dr. Papp brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role and our community,” said Provost Hans van der Giessen. “She spent 30 years as a nurse educator, manager and clinical leader. Dr. Papp has extensive experience in nursing education and professional development, including directing, administering and managing the functions of a school of nursing.

Dr. Papp has served as the Director of the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing (BHSN) for four years, where she successfully led the school in receiving six additional years of national nursing accreditation, five additional years of RN program licensure, and five additional years of college credit approval through the National College Credit Recommendation Service for the BHSN nursing program. The BHSN nursing program has consistently had NCLEX pass rates that have exceeded the National and CT State average pass rates, and the program completion rate has exceeded national standards during her tenure at the School.

Previously, she served for over 25 years at Bridgeport Hospital in various leadership roles. Most recently, she served for six years as the Director of Nursing for the Maternal Child Health Division and the Organization Development and Education Department. As a Certified Nurse in Professional Development, she has led many programs and initiatives to improve staff nursing education and clinical practice.

Dr. Papp is a member of the Connecticut League for Nursing, the National League for Nurses and a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society. As a member of the Connecticut Council of Deans and Directors, she is involved in many initiatives to support nursing education and the educational mobility for nurses.

Dr. Papp holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Anselm’s College, a Master of Science in Counseling from the University of Bridgeport, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the Case Western Reserve University Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing.
