UB students and Bridgeport firefighters build playground to honor Sandy Hook School victims, December 6 to December 11

Students from the University of Bridgeport will team up with Bridgeport firefighters Local 834 to build a playground in memory of student Josephine Grace Gay, who was killed last year at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.

The playground is part of the Where Angels Play initiative; volunteers from Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York coastline communities are building 26 playgrounds named after victims of the school tragedy on December 14, 2012.

Construction of the Josephine Grace Gay Playground begins at 8 a.m. Friday, December 6 at section 6 Seaside Park in Bridgeport.

The playground will be opened at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Wednesday, December 11.

UB student volunteers from Lambda Sigma Upsilon fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, and the groups Alternative Spring Break and WEACT (Working and Educating to Achieve Community Togetherness) will help unload supplies and construct the play space on December 6 and December 7.

Sodexo Dining Services from UB and Lorenzo’s restaurant will provide drinks and sandwiches for the volunteers.
