University of Bridgeport picks banking expert Lloyd Gibson as new business school dean
Dr. Lloyd Gibson, a former banking CEO with extensive experience in academia and business, has been appointed Dean of the University of Bridgeport (UB) School of Business.
His new role, which begins in August, will include overseeing the expansion of the business school as it enhances its focus to include more programs in entrepreneurships and increases its roster of experienced faculty, said UB President Neil A. Salonen.
“Dr. Gibson’s experience as a CEO and as a dean and director at two other universities—particularly his success in the area of innovative entrepreneurial programs—makes him an ideal choice to lead our dramatic expansion of the business school,” said Salonen. “We are strengthening its focus on workplace preparedness, and we will be hiring a number of new faculty members and initiating programs under his leadership.”
Gibson was most recently the Dean of Education and Campus Dean at Stratford University in Falls Church, Virginia, where he was responsible for the academic oversight of 32 programs. Prior to that, he served as Director of the MBA program at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where he implemented a specialization in entrepreneurship in the MBA program and helped to create the Wukich Center for Entrepreneurial Opportunities, where he served as Director. He was also an assistant professor, teaching courses in management, strategic management, quantitative methods, and entrepreneurship.
Before moving to academia, Gibson worked for 28 years in the banking industry, including 14 years as the president and CEO of three different community banks. He has also worked as a senior credit officer, chief lending officer, and head of commercial lending. During his banking career, Dr. Gibson has had extensive interaction with entrepreneurs in all types of businesses. His most recent banking experience was as the President and CEO of New Asia Bank in Chicago.
Gibson earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh. He earned his Master of Business Administration with a major in Finance and Public Management from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. Gibson received his Doctor of Science in Information Systems and Communications from Robert Morris University. He currently serves as a trustee on the board of the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation.
He and his wife Regina Gibson, who met at the Wharton School of Business, have devoted their entire professional lives to the business community and have coauthored several papers on entrepreneurship and technology acceptance. They recently moved to Bridgeport.
Gibson said he was “excited to have the opportunity to position the School of Business for growth, including the addition of new programs such as an online MBA.”
