International College to host “Tunes of the Himalayas” benefit concert to build schools in Nepal on Saturday, October 8
The International College at the University of Bridgeport is proud to host Tunes of the Himalayas, a benefit concert with music by the band Katumba on Saturday, October 8.
The fundraiser begins at 7 p.m. at the Cox Student Center, 244 University Avenue, Bridgeport. Tickets are $15 per person and $10 for students.
All proceeds will benefit school-building campaign in Nepal by Sarvoydaya USA, a humanitarian organization devoted to developing communities, reducing poverty, and enhancing the quality of life for all. The nonprofit was founded by A.J. Ariyaratne, recipient of the 2008 Gandhi Peace Price and Honorary Fellow at the International College.
About Katumba: The word “kutumba,” signifies a tight community bond and holds a special meaning in the Nepali language. As their name suggests, the six-member band Kutumba brings together traditional folk music and instruments with new, improvised sounds.
