UB alumnus Dennis M. Walcott named new NYC schools chancellor

University of Bridgeport alumnus Dennis M. Walcott ’73, ’74 has been named New York City’s schools chancellor by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.

Walcott is replacing Cathleen P. Black, whose three-month tenure as head of the city’s 1.1 million-student school system was marked by controversy from the start.

Walcott, 59, earned his Bachelor of Art in Sociology and a Master of Science in Education at UB.
