UB to host walkathon in support of Center for Women and Families of Eastern Fairfield County on April 15; prizes awarded to top fundraisers
In conjunction with National Sexual-Assault Awareness Month, the University of Bridgeport will host a walkathon to benefit the Center for Women and Families of Eastern Fairfield County on Friday, April 15.
The walk is three miles long and begins at 1:45 p.m. at the Cox Student Center, 244 University Avenue, where it also ends.
To pre-register and to obtain walkathon pledge forms, go to www.bridgeport.edu/awareness or call (203) 576-4274. Participants can also register the day of the event, starting at 1 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded to top fundraisers, and the first 200 registered walkers will receive a free T-shirt.
All proceeds will support the Center and its programs, including its 24-hour bilingual domestic violence and rape hot lines, emergency shelter, community education, victim advocacy, and counseling services. The Center serves the communities of Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford, and Trumbull.
UB Vice President of University Relations Mary-Jane Foster said: “The Center for Women and Families of Eastern Fairfield County does crucial work in our communities. Its emergency hot lines, safe house, and advocacy services provide true lifelines for our most vulnerable citizens: victims of domestic violence and sexual and child abuse. We applaud its work and invite the community to join us as we support the Center on April 15.”
