Presenting "Key Considerations in Evaluating the Quality and Efficacy of Supplements, Featuring Scientifically-Supported Botanicals for the Common Clinical Challenges of Weight Management and Musculoskeletal Issues" (2 CEUs)
Botanical Supplements are an increasingly popular component of healthcare for millions of Americans. Discerning among the many available options is challenging, not only for consumers but for healthcare providers, as well. This presentation will highlight the key parameters to evaluate when choosing and recommending supplements, review the development process for clinically supported botanicals, and discuss the importance of standardization for botanical ingredients. Clinical research will be presented on several herbal ingredients used for common clinical complaints.
Barbara A. Davis is currently Associate Professor of Nutrition in the Dept. of Health Sciences at the University of Bridgeport. She also serves as head of Clinical Sciences at PLT Health Solutions, where she was formerly Vice President, Medical & Scientific Affairs. Prior to this, she was Vice President, Science & Technology for HealthFocus International, a consumer insights research company. Dr. Davis has also served as Director, Innovation, Nutrition & Claims at The Dannon Company, Inc., Principal Research Scientist at Wyeth Nutrition and was on the faculty of the Human Nutrition, Foods & Exercise Department at Virginia Tech, where she developed and directed the grant-funded Molecular Nutrition Laboratory. She has expertise in clinical trial design, developing scientific substantiation dossiers for health claims in the US and EU and translating science into competitive product positioning opportunities internationally. Barbara received a PhD in Nutrition with an emphasis on nutrient-gene interactions from the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department at the University of Florida.
Dr. Laski is a graduate of New York Chiropractic College, class of 2016 of where he consecutively made the Dean’s List. While at NYCC, Dr. Laski was an active executive board member of the SACA chapter, SACA Specialty Councils, and the Student Government. His clinical experience post-graduation started with World Spine Care in Moca, Dominican Republic where he was a clinical supervisor. Here he directed treatment of patients with spine related disorders, co-managed patients with local referrals, and supervised and trained volunteers as needed for active patient care in clinic. Following his work with WSC, Dr. Laski moved to New York, New York where he was an Associate Chiropractor for Downtown Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation where he directed patient care and co-managed with Physical Therapy, Acupuncture, PM&R, Podiatry, and Medical Massage. Currently, Dr. Laski works at Triangle Chiropractic in Durham, NC where he treats patients with spine related disorders and musculoskeletal complaints. Dr. Laski is a part of the North Carolina Chiropractic association, American Chiropractic Association, North American Spine Society. Dr. Laski is licenses/certified by the North Carolina Chiropractic State Board, New York Chiropractic State Board, McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy – Part A and B, Certified Primary Spine Practitioner, A World of Hurt, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization – Exercise 1 & 2, Motion Palpation Institute – Full Body Certified, Athletic Movement Assessment – Lower Extremity, and Functional & Kinetic Treatment with Rehab.
Presenting "Ten Homeopathic Healing Remedies to Use in Clinical Practice (1 CEU)"
Attendees of this presentation will be given practical knowledge of 10 Homeopathic remedies to use in a clinical setting for the treatment of common acute, chronic and mental-emotional conditions. Practical clinical applications will be provided, including proper potencies for each category of use.
Dr. Florence McPherson is a seasoned Naturopathic doctor who specialized in Homeopathy. She is celebrating 16 years in private practice and nine years as an adjunct professor of Homeopathy at UB’s School of Naturopathic Medicine, where she teaches Homeopathic Philosophy, and she is a clinical supervisor on a homeopathy rotation at the UB Clinics. A highlight of her career was studying was professor George Vithoulkas at the International Academy of Homeopathy in Alonissos, Greece. Dr. McPherson is currently compiling cases from her practice and teaching materials from her work as a professor to share in a book. She is a passionate teacher and entertaining speaker.
Dr. Keith Overland has run a private chiropractic practice in Norwalk, Conn., for more than 30 years. He is dedicated to helping patients obtain access to conservative, cost-effective chiropractic care and to promoting the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle. He is the past president of both the Connecticut Chiropractic Association (1989-1991), the New England Chiropractic Council (1991-1994) and the American Chiropractic Association (2011-2014). A 1981 graduate of New York Chiropractic College, Dr. Overland has also made a mark in sports chiropractic, having worked with the New York Mets, the United State Speed Skating team, the United States Olympic Training Center, The World Games in Taiwan and countless other state and local teams. He has taught undergraduate sports chiropractic courses at the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic and serves on that institution’s postgraduate faculty. Dr. Overland has represented our profession by appearing on numerous media outlets and was featured in dozens of publications. This course will cover an overview of the current status of the legislative initiatives impacting the practice of chiropractic focusing on opportunities to be successful in private practice and within integrated practice settings. Evidence based care is fast becoming the standard of practice in most settings. In this course we discuss how a typical chiropractic practice with a focus on sports injury care, can combine clinical experiences with current evidence to make appropriate multidisciplinary clinical care paths for patients.

Presenting "What is Old is New Again: Clinical Pearls from the Early Years" (2 CEU’s)
This presentation will review the rich historical evidence and literature of Nature Cure from the late 19th and early 20th c. that responded to acute and chronic diseases with simple modalities and outstanding clinical outcomes. Learn more about the contributions of those who pioneered Naturopathy with conviction and confidence. Attendees will feel inspired with greater confidence and mastery of the roots and traditions of the art of naturopathic medicine and will leave with a tool bag full of useful clinical pearls.
Sussanna Czeranko, a graduate of CCNM, is a licensed ND in Oregon. She has developed an extensive armamentarium of traditional nature-cure tools for her patients and students. Especially interested in balneotherapy, botanical medicine, breathing, and nutrition, she is a frequent presenter, nationally and internationally. She wears multiple hats at NUNM: faculty member, an advancement department member, and Curator of the Rare Books Collection. She is the editor of The HEVERT COLLECTION, a twelve-volume series which reintroduces the early twentieth literature of the profession to contemporary naturopathic doctors. Sussanna is the founder of The Breathing Academy, a training institute for naturopaths to incorporate a scientific model of breathing therapy called Buteyko into their practice. She will open her MANITOU WATERS Naturopathic Clinic and Retreat Centre in the summer of 2019. She is the co-founder of the International Congress on Naturopathic Medicine and a member of the inaugural conference committee of the HEALING SKIES NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE CONFERENCE in Saskatchewan.
Dr. Denny grew up in Hamden. She graduated Albertus Magnus College and University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic. She continued her studies at the University and obtained a Master's in Nutrition. Dr. Denny also obtained her diplomate in medical acupuncture and her diplomate in chiropractic pediatrics from the ICA. Dr. Denny is the only chiropractor in Hamden and New Haven county to hold this pediatric diplomate. Providing the highest level of care to the Hamden community and beyond is Dr. Denny's goal. Passionate about education, Dr. Denny regularly attends seminars so that she is up to date on the latest research and information. She has been published in the Journal of Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics. An active member of the Hamden community, Dr. Eileen was a founding member of Hamden Senior Wish and regularly participates in community food drives coat drives and other events that support those in need in our area. Recently, she joined the Hamden SEPTA. She has been a sponsor of Hamden teams, walk-a-thons and Hamden school events. Dr. Denny will be speaking on the 4 trimesters of pregnancy. There are many unique aspects of women’s health that chiropractic physicians are able to treat.
