What is the Compass Mentoring Program?
The Compass Mentoring Program pairs UB alumni with undergraduate students who are looking for educational advice, career and major guidance, and life lessons. Started by our Alumni Board in 2015, the program began as part of the living-learning experience in Barnum Hall. It is a great opportunity for alumni who appreciate what UB gave them to give something back by helping the next generation of students.
Who takes part in the program?
UB alumni are paired with an undergraduate student who has reached out to us and requested a Compass mentor. These student participate in various events and programs throughout the academic year that enhance their professional and academic development. Alumni mentors do not have to be local to Bridgeport, CT – we love to welcome mentors who live in various parts of the country and world!
Why should you become a mentor?
Giving back to the university that gave you so much by mentoring a current UB student can be one of life’s greatest rewards. Helping our students find their path to success will only prepare them more for life after graduation. The mission of UB is to prepare graduates for life and leadership in an increasingly interconnected world – be a part of the mission and become a mentor today!
What will my commitment be?
This program is intended to be flexible and done on your own schedule. You may choose to stay in touch with your student mentee with face-to-face meetings, email, phone, Facebook, or Skype. It is up to you and your mentee to decide what works best for you!
