Admissions Requirements

New Freshman Applicant


High school students applying as freshmen must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Currently attend a regionally accredited secondary school
  • Upon graduation will have completed four years of English, two years of Math, one year of College Prep Chemistry with a laboratory, one year of College Prep Biology with a laboratory and courses in social studies
  • An overall “B” is recommended (a GPA of 3.0 or higher)

Freshmen candidates will be given consideration to the Pre-Nursing program only. Most successful candidates exceed the minimum standards outlined above.

New Transfer Applicant


New transfer students (defined as having attempted 12 or more college/university level credits at a regionally accredited institution) applying to the Pre-Nursing Program must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Successful completion of transfer coursework is an earned grade of “C” or better in general education courses; a “C+” or better is required for all math and science courses (Anatomy & Physiology I and 2, Microbiology, Chemistry, Algebra, Statistics)
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

Transfer applicants will be reviewed relative to cumulative Quality Point Ratio (QPR), math and science coursework, personal essay, and recommendation forms. Transfer students who have not completed a college-level science and a college-level math course will be evaluated using relevant high school coursework. Most successful candidates exceed the minimum standards as outlined above.

Current UB Students

Current UB students seeking to apply into the Pre-Nursing program must submit the following directly to UB’s School of Nursing:

  • University of Bridgeport School of Nursing Supplemental Application for Internal Pre-Nursing
  • Official University of Bridgeport Transcript (To be obtained by the UBSN)
  • FERPA Consent Form
  • Final Official College/University Transcripts from ALL Institutions Attended (If outside coursework has been attempted, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain and submit final official transcripts to UBSN)
  • Two (2) University of Bridgeport School of Nursing Recommendation Forms
  • Personal Essay of Approximately 500 Words. In the personal essay, describe what you know about the nursing profession, your experiences interacting with people, and your views on healthy living. You may identify your career goals and plans for succeeding in the University of Bridgeport’s School of Nursing. You may attach additional details of circumstances or qualifications not reflected in the application. Include your name, date, and signature on the statement.
