Lauren Rousseau Memorial Scholarship (Elementary Education)
The Lauren Rousseau Elementary Education Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Lauren Gabrielle Rousseau, a 30 year old teacher, who was one of the 26 individuals who lost their lives in the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.
Lauren was born June 8, 1982, in Danbury, where she lived for most of her life. She was a graduate of Danbury High School and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and was a 2005 graduate of the University of Bridgeport, School of Education. The $1000 scholarship will be awarded to an applicant seeking certification in elementary education. The scholarship will be distributed over two semesters in two $500 awards. Recipients may use the scholarship for tuition, books or living expenses. Lauren was a highly motivated, passionate, strong individual with a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of young children through her teaching. The scholarship applicant should demonstrate the same significant character traits.
