Nutrition Institute

ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR IN BIOCHEMISTRY
The Program in Human Nutrition seeks adjunct professors for each of the following courses:
UNDERGRADUATE: Intro to General Organic and Biochemistry, ON-LINE 4 credits/ 15 week duration.  This course is taught in Blackboard LMS; start date of course is late August, 2012
Course objectives include:

  • Understand the principles of general chemistry   including methods and measurement, structure of the atom and periodic table, structure and properties of compounds, chemical equations, and states of matter
  • Understand the principles of organic chemistry including thermodynamics, acids and bases, oxidation/reduction, and   hydrocarbons
  • Understand the organic functional groups and introductory biochemistry including the biological structure and importance of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and enzymes

Requirements:             
MS OR PhD in Biochemistry; DC, ND will be considered; a minimum of two years undergraduate teaching experience  is required; on-line experience is a plus; proficient in utilization of text communications and personnel computers is required.
GRADUATE:  Biochemistry of Nutrition 4 credits On- Campus (5) weekend days 9-5pm from September through December 2012 and January – May 2013.
This on-campus course is taught in the classroom; Blackboard is used for assignments between monthly classes.
Course objectives include:

  • Structure and function of the main classes of biomolecules, specifically, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids. 
  •  Second Law of Thermodynamics and its implications, hydrophilic/hydrophobic cellular environments, structure-function relationships, compartmentalization, key chemical groups, buffers, pKa, and chemical coupling.
  • Amino acid and general protein structure, specific proteins, such as hemoglobin (in conjunction with the bicarbonate buffer system), antibodies, collagen, and insulin are explored,.
  • Major aspects of the structure, function, kinetics and inhibition of enzymes.  
  • Major anabolic and catabolic pathways of amino acids and proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids are rigorously discussed, relating them to pathophysiological conditions and changes in general nutrition status. 
  • Metabolic integration and related hormonal control are also emphasized; and the P450 detoxification system is explained in detail.
  • Discussion of nucleic acid structure and function is presented to the student, including the details of DNA synthesis, transcription, and translation, and genetic regulation. 
  • An important course objective also includes developing critical thinking skills.
Requirements:            
MS OR PhD in Biochemistry; a minimum of two years Graduate level teaching of Biochemistry experience  is required; on-line experience is a plus; Smartboard and Blackboard skills are desirable.

Adjunct Faculty-Design Management
The Shintaro Akatsu School of Design (SASD) at the University of Bridgeport is seeking a qualified design professional to teach one or two courses in the Master of Professional Studies in Design Management degree program.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership

The School of Education invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership.
An earned doctorate in educational administration or related fields is required.  Familiarity with and experience as a school administrator in the State of Connecticut; excellent research activities.
 Will be responsible for reorganizing and administering the intermediate administration and supervision (092) program.  Duties include the following: program recruitment and administration of admissions requirements; advisement and assignment of advisors for candidates in the program; organizing the preparation for the Connecticut Administrator Test (CAT) and placement of students in administrative intern positions.  In addition the individual will teach courses as assigned in the intermediate supervision and administration (092) program.  The individual will play an active role in the University and department activities.

Assistant / Associate Professor Clinical Sciences

The College of Chiropractic is seeking an assistant and/or associate professor of clinical sciences.  Candidates must have a current license to practice chiropractic in at least one State and be eligible for licensure in the State of Connecticut.  Have at least 5 years of teaching/practice experience. Strong diagnostic, physical examination, analytical and differential diagnosis skills. Familiar with evidence based practice/problem based learning.  Evidence of progressive post graduate training.  Advanced certification or diplomate status in internal disorders or public health recommended.  This is a tenure track appointment. All candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment and record to teaching and student advising. Interests in clinical research desired.

Will instruct lectures and laboratories for clinical science areas to include laboratory diagnosis, differential diagnosis of internal disorders, and public health.  Prepare course syllabi, examinations and evaluation methods/procedures.  Present conservative management plan as well as traditional medical treatment.  Participate in development and administration of OSCE exams.  Small group/team teaching.  Participate in College/University committees and meetings.

Assistant / Associate Professor Clinical Sciences

The College of Chiropractic is seeking an assistant and/or associate professor of clinical sciences.  Candidates must have a current license to practice chiropractic in at least one State and be eligible for licensure in the State of Connecticut.  Have at least 5 years of teaching/practice experience. Strong diagnostic, physical examination, analytical and differential diagnosis skills. Familiar with motion palpation and diversified technique.  Familiar with evidence based practice/problem based learning.  Evidence of progressive post graduate training.  Advanced certification or diplomate status in sports injuries, rehabilitation, orthopedics/neurology, internal disorders or nutrition recommended.  This is a tenure track appointment. All candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment and record to teaching and student advising. Interests in clinical research desired.
Will instruct lectures and laboratories for clinical science courses to include Palpation/technique, physiotherapy, orthopedics/neurology and diagnosis.  Develop course syllabi, examinations and evaluation methods/procedures.  Incorporate case management, health/wellness, nutrition, and rehab into treatment plan.  Participate in development and administration of OSCE exams.  Team teaching may be required for some courses.  Participate in College/University committees and meetings.

Assistant Professor Clinical Services

The College of Chiropractic is seeking an assistant professor of clinical services.  Candidates must have a current license to practice chiropractic in at least one State and be eligible for licensure in the State of Connecticut.  Have at least 5 years of teaching/practice experience. Strong diagnostic, physical examination, analytical and differential diagnosis skills. Familiar with evidence based practice/problem based learning.  Evidence of progressive post graduate training.  Advanced certification or diplomate status in internal disorders or public health recommended.  This is a non-tenure track position.  Some teaching in clinical science subjects may be required.  All candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment and record to teaching and student advising. Interests in clinical research desired.

Will be responsible for the care of patients and supervision of patient care as administered by student interns in the College of Chiropractic in on campus and off campus clinics.  Will be responsible for the instruction, supervision and evaluation of interns’ clinical competencies.   Ensure that all required examination/treatment procedures/protocols are carried out by the interns.  Ensure that the patient record is current and properly documented.  Develop/participate in the establishment of clinical objectives, exams (OSCE), intern grading, clinics protocols, small group teaching, grand round, intern observations, and marketing of the out -patient clinic. Participate in College/University committees and meetings.

Assistant Professor level, tenure-track. Required qualifications include the Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree in Psychology. The appointee will teach courses in Social, Cognitive, and Personality Psychology, and also will participate in shaping the department through course and program development, work with admissions, and the like. Depending on qualifications, the appointee may teach in the graduate Counseling program.

Psychology Assistant Professor level, tenure-track. Required qualifications include the Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree in Psychology. The appointee will teach courses (e.g., History of Psychology, Abnormal Psychology) that complement strengths of other faculty members in the department, and also will participate in shaping the department through course and program development, work with admissions, and the like. Depending on qualifications, the appointee may teach in the graduate Counseling program.

Masters of Professional Studies in Design Management (MPS DM)

Assistant/Associate Professor Professional Design Studies. Tenure track position. MPS or appropriate terminal degree in design management, and professional experience in corporate design. Teaching experience preferred. Candidates should provide visual documentation of professional work in the following design fields, or related to, graphic, industrial or interior design. Primary responsibility will be in teaching design management and collaborative design studio. Will participate in the administration of the MPS program, student recruitment, curriculum development, academic advising, and committee work. Position reports to the Director of SASD.
