Welcome to the University of Bridgeport online. Accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC), UB Online has been offering courses online since 1997.

UB Online offers a variety of programs and courses. Our programs are asynchronous, allowing you to attend class anytime from anywhere. All you need is a computer, access to the Internet, email, and you can take courses or complete your degree from the comfort of your home or office.

Distance learning offers many advantages, particularly for busy adults who want to further their education but need a convenient way to fit school into their lives. But distance education is not necessarily for everyone - you need time, motivation and self-discipline.


 Computer Requirements 


Online courses are a flexible and convenient way to take classes or earn your degree from a distance. And while you don't need to be a computer expert, you should be familiar with using a computer and navigating the Internet before getting started.

Follow the guidelines below to make sure you have the proper knowledge and equipment before registering for an online course:

Hardware

  • Computer with reliable access to the Internet
  • Windows 98 operating system or higher
  • Mac OS 9.0 or higher (Mac users only)
  • Intel-compatible processor, 200MHz or faster
  • 64MB of RAM
  • 4GB or larger hard drive with 1GB or more free disk space
  • 56Kbps modem
    (NOTE: a high speed internet connection such as DSL or cable is strongly recommended)


Software

  • An active e-mail account
  • Word processor (Microsoft Word is recommended, but not mandatory)
  • Internet Explorer 4.01 or higher: Download IE
    Netscape 4.0 or higher: Download Netscape JavaScript, Java, & Cookies must be enabled.
  • Anti-virus software, for protection when sending and receiving files.
  • Additional software programs for your web browser (called "plug-ins") that enable your browser to display various audio, video, or graphics: Adobe Acrobat Reader (for viewing PDF files):Download the free Adobe Reader. RealPlayer digital media player: Download the free Real Player.

Skills
All online students should be able to:

  • Connect to the Internet
  • Navigate the Internet and be able to use a web browser
  • Use email to send and receive attachments
  • Create, store and retrieve files
  • Use a word processing program
  • Download and install software from the Internet
  • Copy and paste text
  • Use a floppy disk and CD-ROM
  • Maintain your own equipment
