Microbiology
This course
introduces the student to the basic concepts of microbiology with
emphasis on the structure, growth, metabolism and genetics of
bacteria. Host-parasite relationships of representative bacterial,
fungal, viral, and protozoan pathogens are examined. A survey
of microbial diseases includes modes of transmission, symptoms,
diagnosis, physical and chemical methods of disinfection, sterilization
and treatment. Presentations include lecture, laboratory and case
studies. prerequisites BC511, PH521, PH612

Epidemiology / Public Health
This course
covers the current environmental and public health concerns and
issues. The course integrates health with diet, air and water
pollutants, noise and substance abuse, compares community hygiene
and industrial hygiene, defines epidemiology, and recognition
of major communicable and non-communicable diseases. Prerequisite
MB621.
