Gas Turbines I ME 513

Course Description

Introduction to gas turbine fundamentals with emphasis on thermodynamics, cycle analysis, energy transfer in turbomachinery, component performance and component matching. Discussion of various gas turbine engine types including turboshaft (non-regenerative and regenerative cycles), turbojet, turbofan and turboprop. Aero/ thermodynamic behavior of components: compressor, turbine, combustor, diffuser, and nozzle. Background to assess characteristics and performance of various gas turbine types.
