University Strategic Plan

A new round of strategic planning commenced at the University in spring 2003 under the direction of President Neil Salonen after the 1998 5-year plan expired.

From the onset, the planning committee opted for a “portfolio” approach to planning rather than a fixed 5 year plan. This approach is in response to the S.W.O.T. analysis conducted by the planning committee that the strategic plan should be flexible to accommodate the rapidly changing environment of higher education.

To ensure University-wide involvement in the planning effort, the opinions of trustees, administrators, faculty, staff and students were sought, and a Strategic Planning Committee, consisting of faculty and administrators, was formed in the fall of 2003 to articulate the goals, objectives and actions of the plan.

A University Planning Review Board was set up to review the draft plan before it was approved by the University Senate on April 19, 2005. Consequently the Board of Trustees approved the plan on April 26, 2005.
