Admissions Counselor, IDEAL Program

Position Summary:

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for recruiting new students into the IDEAL Program and performing the admissions process.

Functions Performed in Fulfilling Major Job Responsibilities:

  1. Respond to all inquiries with appropriate materials and determine student eligibility for the IDEAL Program.
  2. Create new student files and ensure that they are complete and current.
  3. Advise applicant students in the following areas:
    • Completing an Application for Admission
    • Initial course selections that do not conflict with possible transfer credit and in keeping with the customized degree plan.
    • The availability of non-traditional credit options, such as the Credit for Life Work Experience program.
    • Selection of an Academic program and its requirements.
    • Academic and administrative policies and procedures.
  4. Refer students to appropriate support service areas and advise on the services provided by those areas:
    • Program Academic Advisor (subsequent to initial course selection)
    • Financial Aid
    • Business Office
    • Registrar
    • Career and tutorial assistance
  5. Analyze current student enrollment and registration procedures; make recommendations/strategies for improvement; design and implement policy and procedure enhancements.
  6. Conduct information sessions; attend education fairs, community college events, and corporate information seminars as requested.
  7. Assist in preparation of new student orientation materials and participate in orientation programs.
  8. Assist with programs and activities sponsored by the Program.
  9. Perform additional job related duties as delegated by the Director of the Program.
  10. Develop, maintain and market to a select contact list of corporate, agency and community college contacts.

Job Qualifications:

  1. A bachelor's degree is required; preferably in business, marketing, educational administration or counselor education.
  2. Experience working in an educational setting, ideally with non-traditional students.
  3. Exceptional customer service skills.
  4. Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Ability to work flexible evening and weekend hours.
  6. Experience with Microsoft office applications and database management systems.
  7. The ability to communicate well both orally and in writing.
