
ebrary Plugin
In order to view electronic books through the ebrary database, you need to download and install a plug-in for your web browser. Follow the instructions below, and contact a librarian if you need help
Installation - Windows using Internet Explorer
1. Before installing, ensure that you have cookies enabled in your browser. To enable cookies on Internet Explorer 6.0 or 7.0 follow the following instructions.
I. Start Internet Explorer
II. Under the “Tools” menu, click “Internet Options”
III. Click the “Privacy” tab
IV. Click the “Advanced” button
V. Put a check mark in the box for “Override Automatic Cookie Handling,” put another check mark in the “Always accept session cookies” box.
VI. Click “OK”
VII. Click “OK”
VIII. Restart Internet Explorer
3. If you have Windows XP with Service Pack 2, you may need to click your Information Bar and choose "Install ActiveX control" or you can enable "Automatic Prompting" for ActiveX downloads. To do this follows the steps below.
I. In Internet Explorer, click "Tools" and choose "Internet Options".
II. Click the "Security" tab and the icon for "Internet" should be highlighted. If not, just click it to highlight it. Then click the "Custom Level" button near the bottom of the window.
III. Change the "Automatic Prompting for ActiveX Control" from "Disable" to "Enable".
IV. Click "OK" and then "OK" again and proceed to install the ebrary Reader by clicking the link below.
4. Please note that this setting only changes the prompting settings; it does not allow any ActiveX control to be automatically downloaded without you agreeing to it first.
5. The ebrary Reader installs quickly. There is no need to restart your computer, though you may need to refresh your browser.
6. Once you have installed the ebrary Reader, click to view a book, the license agreement should appear in a pop-up window (be sure to allow pop-ups for ebrary.com) for you to accept. To allow pop-ups for ebrary.com follow the following instructions.
I. Select "tools" from the menu, then "Pop Up Blocker", then "Pop Up Blocker Settings".
II. Type “ebrary.com” under the “Address of Web site to allow:” and click Add button.
III. Click “Close”.
IV. If you are using Google toolbar it may block the pop-ups. To allow this blocker follow the following instruction
a. When a pop-up is blocked you will get a notification line towards the top of the window.
b. Click for options to allow the pop up one time or always allow them at that site.
7. When every thing is setup correctly, then simply click on a book title and the software will automatically open within your browser.
Installation - Windows using Mozilla Firefox
Enabling Cookies
- Click on the Tools-menu in Mozilla
- Click on the Options... item in the menu - a new window opens
- Click on the Privacy selection in the left part of the window. (See image below)
- Expand the Cookies section.
- Check the Enable cookies and Accept cookies normally checkboxes.
- Save changes by clicking Ok
For Older Mozilla versions
- Click on the Edit-menu in Mozilla
- Click on the Preferences... item in the menu - a new window opens
- Expand the Privacy & Security selection in the left part of the window.
- Click on the Cookies selection.
- Check the Enable all cookies checkbox.
- Save changes by clicking Ok
To install ebrary Reader using Windows with Firefox, you need to view a document, and accept our License Agreement. In most cases, Firefox will then handle the rest of the installation for you automatically.
If the ebrary Reader is not installed automatically by Firefox, then perform the following additional steps:
1. Before installing, ensure that you have cookies enabled in your browser. To enables cookies on Internet Explorer 6.0 follow the following instructions.
2. After clicking the installation link, click on the puzzle piece that says, "Click here to download plug-in."
3. Click on the "Manual Install" button. This will open an ebrary download page in a new window.
4. Click the "Download ebrary Reader for Windows Now" link. Depending on your security settings, Firefox may display a plug-in security warning at the top of the page and refuse to download the plug-in. If this happens, you must:
I. Click the "Edit Options..." button.
II. Click "Allow" to add ebrary to the list of trusted sites.
III. Click "OK" to update your options.
IV. Click the "Download ebrary Reader for Windows Now" link again to download the Reader.
5. Once the plug-in downloads, click the "Install Now" button to complete installation.
Other Browsers (Safari, Netscape, etc.)
- Click the link to download the installer to your system.
- Find the installer as it was downloaded to your system (usually Desktop)
Search for "ebraryReader.exe" on your hard drive if you can't find it.
- Double click to run the "ebraryReader.exe" program.
- Follow the on-screen instructions in the "ebrary Reader Installer."
- If you get a message saying you need to install the ebrary Reader when opening a document, try closing and restarting your browser.
