Creative Writing
The Creative Writing concentration in the Literature and Civilization major prepares students for a variety of careers and MFA writing programs. Interaction with the published authors in the full-time and adjunct English faculty prepares creative writers for the demands of a career in professional writing. Courses include Poetry Writing, Creative (Fiction) Writing, Autobiographical Writing, and a selection of Independent Study options including a publication workshop. Students who pursue this concentration may use some of the writing courses in the Mass Communication program (News Reporting, Magazine Feature Writing, etc.) to fulfill their requirements, thereby giving an added dimension to their interest in writing.
In addition, the Creative Writing students contribute to Groundswell, the school literary magazine, and may perform at the yearly International Poetry Reading. There are also opportunities for readings throughout the year at the Twisted Cafe and the Magnus Wahlstrom Library.
