The International College

A Learning Community Committed to International Understanding,
Academic Excellence, and Public Service

The New England Center of International & Regional Studies

At its founding in August 1996 the NEC committed itself to working to support program development at the University of Bridgeport.  It saw two primary foci:  An appropriate academic and cultural program that would prepare students for ongoing political and economic changes on the globe and an institution that could orient students to the demands that the future posed due to the internationalization of business.  The NEC began as an emerging academic initiative future programs in:

International Business

International Business with concentrations in international finance, international commercial insurance, international taxation and international business law.

Emerging Markets

International Relations

International Relations with a priority toward the United Nations, international law and international political economy.

Regional Studies

In its regional studies focus, the NEC emphasizes the necessity of developing specialists who are equipped to deal with ongoing political and economic developments in South America, Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Republics.  The NEC also has a special interest in Sustainable Development, recognizing both the need to address the physical and economic challenges by less developed countries and the need to assure that the expense of resources of today’s generation will not jeopardize the well-being of the next generation.
