Office of General Counsel

The Office of General Counsel represents the University regarding various legal, compliance, and administrative matters. Guidance is provided to University schools, faculty and staff including but not limited to assistance with interpretation of federal and state statutes and regulations, employment issues, contract review, risk management and insurance coverage, intellectual property, student conduct matters, property acquisition and disposal, and engaging and monitoring work performed by outside counsel, as appropriate.

The General Counsel is the Assistant Secretary of the University Board of Trustees and serves as a resource on matters related to the Board. The General Counsel is also the Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Officer for the University. As Title IX Officer, the General Counsel is responsible for administration of the University Policies on Harassment, Discrimination, and Hate Crimes; Sexual Harassment; and Sexual Assault including oversight of the resolution of any complaints of policy violations.

The Office of General Counsel webpage is under development. Hyperlinks to a comprehensive manual of University policies and other matters will be incorporated to provide the University community with a reliable source of current practices and procedures.

The Office of General Counsel seeks to provide timely, current and accurate legal advice to University administrators, faculty and staff, in their roles as employees of the University.

Notice Regarding Contracts

Only authorized individuals may sign contracts obligating University of Bridgeport, subject to appropriate review and other requirements. The General Counsel handles all matters of contract review.
