Step by Step Guide for Hiring Student Workers
Step 1: Decide how to list position.
You can list your position on-line or spread the word on your own. We encourage all supervisors to list on UBjobnet which will allow you to store your applicant's resumes, select candidates, and schedule interviews all on-line. If you would like to list your open position contact Toni for your password at 576-4466.
Before you start hiring you need to know the type of position you have and what type of students qualify for it. To learn more read the Supervisor's Guide on Student Workers.
Step 2: Interview qualified candidates.
Meet with students and talk with them about your position. Make sure that they can meet your qualifications as well as your scheduling needs before you hire them.
REMINDER!! Beginning Fall 2008 All students will have to be preauthorized to work before they are eligible to work. Make sure to ask students for their authorization form in the interview. If they do not complete the requirements for authorization prior to September 12, 2008 they will not be eligible to work until Spring semester.
Step 3: Complete the Authorization/Hire Form.
Complete the hire section of the student's form with your department information and your name and signature. Return the form to the student and instruct the student to report to the Career Services Center within 3 days to complete new hire paperwork. Click here to view a Sample Form. Students should have their pre-authorized form with them.
