Women's Soccer Gets Past Slippery Rock, 1-0; Valthorsdottir Sets Career Point-Scoring Record
Bridgeport, Conn. -- Freshman Therese Peterson scored in the 65th minute to lift Bridgeport to a 1-0 win over Slippery Rock on Friday afternoon at Seaside Park.
Peterson scored after receiving a terrific pass from All-Region forward Lilja Valthorsdottir, who set the UB all-time career point-scoring record with the assist. She breaks the record of 94 career points set by former standout player Jen Svelnys.
Both teams had a number of solid scoring chances in the game, including a shot from Peterson that hit the right post in the early minutes of the first half. Slippery Rock also had a solid chance early in the game that was turned away by UB goalkeeper Thora Rognvaldsdottir. She finished with four saves in the game.
The Purple Knights are now 2-0 on the season and are back in action on Sunday when the team entertains the Fighting Scots of Edinboro University. Game time is set for Noon at Seaside Park. Slippery Rock falls to 0-1 on the season with the loss.
