Required Hardware

The laptop can connect to the wireless network if it is able to meet the following requirements:

  • Pentium-4 or M Processor
  • 256MB RAM
  • If Internal Wireless Laptop, it must incorporate Centrino™ technology.
  • Support 802.11b/g
  • If an external PCMCIA card is used the only supported vendors are:
    • Vendor:  D-Link
      • Model:  Xtreme 802.11g, Airplus 802.11g, Super G 802.11g
    • Vendor: Linksys
      • Model:  802.11b, Speedbooster 802.11g
    • NOTE: Any other type of card is at the responsibility of the user to support.

Acquiring Authentication Certificates

The following screens will help you acquire the required authentication certificates to enable your wireless laptop to connect to the University of Bridgeport’s Network.

  • The first step is to access the University of Bridgeport’s UBNet Help Screens.  
  • The next step is to select the link “Certificates”.
  • Please read the accompanying text in the first two paragraphs. It is important for you to understand that you as a user have a responsibility to protect your certificates against inappropriate access.  Do Not Install These on a Public Machine.  These certificates are associated to your UserID which is directly associated with you.  If unauthorized access is obtained through your careless use of certificates, you will be held responsible for any consequences of its inappropriate use.  
  • There are two occurrences of the statement “Click HERE to install it”; the first is to acquire the University Master Root Certificate.  When you click on the word HERE:
  • Click on the OPEN button
  • Click on the “Install Certificate Button”
  • The next certificate is the Client Root Authority Certificate.  Click on the HERE for the second occurrence of “Click HERE to install”.
  • Click on the OPEN button.
  • Click on the Install Certificate button.
  • The final step is to complete the UB Personal Certificate.  Enter your specific information into the form, select the length of time that your certificate is required (1 day to 1 year) and click on the “Request Personal Certificate” button.
  • When request dialogue box appears press the Yes button.
  • Press the “Install Your Certificate” button.
  • Press the Yes button.
  • Press OK.
  • You have completed the installation.  Close down your browser window to the screen and you can go ahead and connect to the UBNetwork at the designated wireless locations.
