Incoming Mail
Mail is received from the post office twice daily, in the morning and around noon.  The noon delivery consists of express, certified and registered mail.

Outgoing Mail
Outgoing regular mail must be deposited in your out box by 2:30 pm for pick-up by mail center personnel.  Outgoing mail is delivered to the USPS by 4:00 pm daily.

Look-Up Mail
Any mail generically addressed to University of Bridgeport will be opened by the mail center to determine the most logical destination. Should you receive a piece of mail error, please notify the mail center so we may attempt to re-route it to the appropriate person or department.

Postage Charges
All outgoing mail must be accompanied by a postal charge slip.  The slip must contain the name of the department sending the mail pieces and the department account number.

Presort Mail
Qualifying mail pieces are sent out at the presort rate on an as needed basis.  The University must have at least 500 pieces of qualifying mail in order to receive a pick up from the presort mail house.  Mail pieces must have the following characteristics to qualify for this discounted price:

  • #10 envelope
  • Envelopes must weigh under 2oz.
  • If a window envelope, no writing/printing below the window
  • Recipient’s address must be typed (handwritten addresses do not qualify)
  • Destination must be domestic

Express Mail
USPS Express mail must be in the mail center no later than 3:30pm to qualify for overnight delivery.

International Mail
All mail pieces destined for international locations must be addressed correctly with the destination country on the last line of the address (see sample below). 

Addressing Mailings

  • Use University of Bridgeport stationary
  • Whenever possible, type or laser print destination addresses
  • Black type on white paper works best
  • Be sure to include a return address with your full name
