Graduate Admission Requirements for International Students Seeking Master or Doctorate Degrees

  1. Submit a complete Application for International Students. Include a NON-REFUNDABLE Application Fee of $35.00 – bank check or money order - drawn on a U.S. Bank and made payable to the University of Bridgeport. DO NOT SEND CASH. Your application will NOT be processed without the application fee.

  2. a. For Graduate/Post-Graduate Applicants seeking Master or Doctorate degrees: Submit OFFICIAL/notarized/certified/or attested copies of ALL ORIGINAL post-secondary school (university/college) records with a proof of graduation, if available. This includes official/notarized/certified/or attested mark sheets, academic transcripts, final examination results, diplomas, and degree certificates from every college or university attended showing course work, grades, number of course hours, and conferral of bachelor's degree if available. Indian Applicants should submit their CONSOLIDATED mark sheets and academic transcripts if available.

    b. Applicants who have not yet received their Bachelor degree certificate/diploma may still apply by providing their year-to-date OFFICIAL/notarized/certified/or attested mark sheets, academic transcripts and a letter (or a provisional degree certificate) from their college/university stating their anticipated graduation date. In other words, evidence that the applicant has completed, or is in the process of completing, a university-level degree program must be provided.

  3. Submit official notarized/certified/or attested course descriptions or syllabi, with exact course names and numbers, for all post-secondary (university/college) academic work attempted so that it may be evaluated for possible transfer of credit. Student-generated course descriptions are not acceptable.

  4. Submit a word-for-word notarized/certified/or attested English translations in the same format as the official document if the official document is not in English. It is important that everything on the official document be translated. Translations must be done by a bona fide translating agency in your country or in the U.S.

  5. Complete and submit the Financial Statement for International Students Form (FSIS) accompanied by an original bank statement from your sponsor showing adequate funds. The bank statement must be of recent date of issue, no more than 6 months old, in English, and it must be in the same name as your sponsor. To download the FSIS form, click here.

  6. All non-native English language speakers must demonstrate English language competency by providing a TOEFL score of 550 (PBT) or 213 (CBT). However, students who do not have a TOEFL score or whose score is insufficient may still apply. For more information on TOEFL, please go to www.toefl.org. The University of Bridgeport School Code for TOEFL is 3914. If you do not demonstrate English language competency prior to registration, you will be given the University English Language Assessment Battery (ELAB) test upon arrival. If you pass at a satisfactory level, you may begin classes. If you do not pass at a satisfactory level, you will be required to attend the University's English Language Institute (ELI) until proficiency is reached. ELAB passing grade for graduate students is 72.

  7. Submit a personal statement/essay (250-500 words) CLEARLY explaining why you wish to pursue your particular academic subject, what the degree will do for your personal and career development, and how such a degree will help you achieve your future goals and aspirations. Include your professional plans once you earn your degree.

  8. Provide two letters of recommendation in English. These letters must come from professors or employers who can attest to your attainments and potential for success at the graduate level. No special form is required.

  9. Submit a resume or C.V. reflecting your work experience (if applicable). However, students with no work experience can still apply.

  10. Submit a CLEAR copy of your passport information page with your complete name, date of birth, and country of citizenship.

  11. Applicants currently in the U.S. must submit CLEAR copies of their U.S. visa stamp, I-94 card, I-20 (if any), I-797 (if any), and all other immigration document(s).


Additional Requirements by Program

Master's in Business Administration (MBA)

  • A minimum GMAT score of 400 is required for admission into the MBA program ONLY. However, students with no GMAT score or insufficient score can still apply as conditional admission may be granted.

  • Students with three-year Bachelor degrees from India in B.Com. and B.B.A. can apply to the MBA program.
  • Evidence of professional awards and certifications is highly recommended, but not required. 

Master's of Science in Computer Science (M.S.), Computer Engineering (M.S.), Electrical Engineering (M.S.), Mechanical Engineering (M.S.), and Technology Management (M.S.)

  • GRE is recommended but NOT required for admission into any of the above Master’s level programs.

Master's of Science in Education (M.S.) and Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.)

  • If post-secondary (college/university) academic studies were done outside the U.S., a course-by-course evaluation of all academic work will be required. Please contact an accredited academic evaluating service for more information (www.wes.org). Please note: this evaluation is ONLY required for students interested in pursuing a Master's or Ed. D degree in Education.

  • A minimum TOEFL score of 550 (PBT) or 213 (CBT) is required for the M.S. or Ed.D. in Education.

  • Students who are currently residing in the United States must also take the PRAXIS I examination and submit your score with your application.  Please visit www.ets.org/praxis/prxreg.html for more information. 
  • The program in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) requires test results from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). For more information on GRE, you may visit www.ets.org. For information on the MAT, please visit www.tpcweb.com.

Master's of Science in Human Nutrition (M.S.)

  • Students applying for the M.S. in Human Nutrition program must successfully complete the following prerequisite courses with a grade of "B" or better: Basic Nutrition, Anatomy & Physiology, and Introduction to Biochemistry.

  • Students who have NOT completed the above-mentioned prerequisites will NOT be admitted into the Human Nutrition program.

  • Students may complete the above-mentioned prerequisites at a recognized university/college in their home country.


Application Deadlines

  • July 1 is the last date to apply for the Fall Semester which begins late August/early September.

  • November 1 is the last date to apply for the Spring Semester which begins mid January.

  • It is highly recommended that you apply and submit ALL the above documents at least one month before the deadlines.

  • Any applications received after the above deadlines will automatically be deferred to the next semester.

Application Processing Time

4-5 weeks from the date your application is received. Processing time may be extended if certain required documents are missing. Therefore, we recommend that you send us ALL of the above-mentioned documents in one package/envelope to avoid any unnecessary delays.
